Welcome back to Speed Reviews where I, korogamerepic, review games quickly for you to get less time to read and more time to play. With Vol. 2, I have a few games I beat waiting to be reviewed, so without further ado, Let's GO.
Danganronpa Series: The Danganronpa series, available on PC and Playstation Consoles, is a murder mystery visual novel game where the player builds bonds with 15 other classmates while they drop like flies, leading to an investigation of their murder before a Class Trial, where the player uses evidence they found to prove or disprove the other classmates' statements. Backed by a heavy electronic soundtrack, each game feels mostly unique with its own sense of style. Some of the characters are worthless, but others have great writing that sets them apart from all of the other students. Danganronpa is an incredibly story-driven experience, but minigames throughout the class trials are a fun break from long sections of reading dialogue. As a whole, Danganronpa earns a 5 monokumas out of 5, with my personal favorite game being V3.
Murdered: Soul Suspect: MSS is a detective game that was like $2 or $3 on sale, and it has a really annoying frame rate, where it's just barely under 50 fps. But that's the only drawback right? No. I was greeted with an incredibly generic story with gameplay that's just barely entertaining. In Murdered: Soul Suspect, you play as Rex, a detective who was killed by an unknown assailant only identified as The Bell Killer. Throughout the game, Rex as a ghost tries to find out who exactly the Bell Killer is, while protecting a psychic medium who can see ghosts. Gameplay consists of walking through walls and collecting 150 or so collectibles, and gathering clues to answer a question or solve a mini-case. Overall the story sucks, the gameplay is boring, and it runs like crap. Murdered: Soul Suspect gets a 1 detective out of 5.
Resident Evil Village: Ahahahaha, RESIDENT EVIL 8. What we've all been waiting for. Resident Evil Village is pretty divided among game reviewers, with a lot being mad that it isn't scary. And I have one thing to say about that: RE8 is more a celebration of the later half of the Resident Evil games, a LOT more action oriented than horror. There is one genuinely eerie section of the game, but it lasts maybe 45 mins tops. RE Village really lent its hand to Resident Evil 4, with an identical inventory, a currency system, and less focus on scary stuff. If you really want a horror-based RE game, play RE7. It follows the style of the first half of the RE games really well, and is just real good. Anyways, the story of Village is awesome, and albeit the pretty basic structure of the 'Collect one item from each boss in their own areas', each area feels different from the other. The camera is first person, like the 3rd time in the series of over 10 games, and the style itself is a great sequel to RE7. I won't say too much about the story, but a lot of references are made about the earlier RE games, like Chris being called a 'boulder punching idiot', a nod to RE5 where he literally punches a boulder. The whole merchant mechanic is reinforced by no item boxes, and is fine-tuned to give the player more of a 'take what you can' attitude. Resident Evil Village was the first game I pre-ordered, and it did not let me down. I give REV/8 4 crows out of 5.
Mortal Kombat XL: MORTAL KOMBAAAAT 10 is pretty good. MK XL has an okay story, cool costumes, and awesome fighting, where game-breaking combos can be chained together to really make the opponent rage quit. With friends, MK games as a whole are fun of course, and 10 is the only one I've beaten the story mode for so far. I got MK11, so we'll see how that goes. Anyway, not much to say about the second-to-latest entry in the MK series. I give Mortal Kombat XL a 3 scorpion spears out of 5.
That's it for this volume of Speed Reviews! I know it was a little longer than I thought it would be, but please take note of this info about all of the above games. Oh also Mortal Kombat XL is the better version of Mortal Kombat X (10). I know what I'm talking about. Seeya!
